Bella Bigsby
Having lived and exhibited her work in California for the past 18 years, Bella recently returned home to Norfolk, where she grew up.
In her oil on canvas paintings, she combines tangible elements of the world around her with memories of landscape, home and a love of the magical nature of myth and fairytale. Bella is interested in the details of things, textures and how the place where you grow up shapes the person you are. It becomes an internalised landscape, like the shape of a familiar tree.
Animals and birds that have a rich folkloric tradition are particularly intriguing to Bella as they are infused with layers of human history as well as their own unknowable narratives. Nature is a separate yet parallel world.
Bella is most interested in the quiet presence of this world, as it touches our everyday one, rather than in nature at its most grand and dramatic.
Familiar birds and trees are, endlessly rich in beauty and meaning. Bella exhibits original paintings and fine art reproductions at many locations in Norfolk and Suffolk as well as continuing to show work in the U.S.
